SPICE JAR

This is a restaurant in Residency hotel at G.N.Chetty street. We had sunday lunch over there.

Ambiance: It is OK, not very opulent, but nice. As soon as you enter the hotel, the restaurant is just in front of you. Seating is fine, we got the table immediately, though it was crowded.

Food: For the starters they have two vegetarian  variety, it was potato pakoras and small uttapam with onion. and two mocktails and vegetable soup. Starters were good and service was very prompt.
Salad...There were usual 4-5 types of it,even dahi vada was also kept with starters, I liked pineapple with spices.
Then in the main dishes, there was so much variety of vegetables..yam, radish with peas, green koftas, paneer,2-3 southern varieties, zeera potato, brinjal salan, tadka daal,Date pulao, plain rice, curd rice, gobhi rolls and naan, roti I liked date pulao very much same for paneer, was very tasty, gtobhi rolls, radish with peas were also good.
Desserts: First time I liked trifle pudding, there were three types of cakes, four types of ice cream accompanied by chocolate sauce and butter scotch( I dint like butter scotch, it was burnt),bengali sweet, milk barfi, aval pyasam, kesari and cheese cake.
All that ended with Betel leaves.
All in all it was good value for money, they had many non veg varieties too, but since I dint take it, I cant say anything about them.

Tariff....687/ per person

Nungambakkam outlet we tried the buffet...ambiance is ok type, seating is neither very close nor very spacious.just good enough.. nothing very fancy..but nice. Menu is quite good, with lots of variety.soups are very good, green pea and tomato both, infact the best. Then starters, some kalari potatoes, sesame kabab, pakoras and chilli paneer etc..chilli paneer he brought only when i saw it in menu and asked him...but anyway it wasnt good, pakora and sesame kabab were good but for second serving we waited, till we almost came to the end of our lunch. for papdi chaat, they were putting everything on sem( maida sticks fried)..a variation and a good one. In the main food they had sambhar rasam, paneer khurchan daal and one more vegetable.here I found it lacking not a singe preparation was good, daal was good but it had too much of salt., naan kulcha were well made. they had paani puri dahi vada, and variety of rice and salads etc.I like their way of serving dahi bhall.small small kat...

Ingredients:----- 1cup broken wheat 250 gm cabbage..julienned 1small capsicum..julienned 1 carrot grated 1 tsp. oil 1tsp. mustard seeds. 1/2 tsp. turmeric 1/2 tsp salt or as you like it 1/2 lemon 2 tbsp. roasted peanuts. Green chilli (optional) coriander leaves..finely chopped for garnishing. Dry roast the broken wheat, till it is golden. In a pan put oil, and when it is hot add mustard seeds. When they start spluttering add all the vegetables. saute them for 5-8 minutes, till they get shiny or loose water. Keep them aside. Now cook the broken wheat with 2 cup water, turmeric and salt, slow the fire and cook till all the water is absorbed. Mix the vegetables in this. Now while serving spread some peanuts and then sprinkle lemon. TIPS:.....even you can roast the wheat in microwave also, you will have to stir it once or twice. Some people add tomatoe...
