JALPAAN

Nungambakkam outlet we tried the buffet...ambiance is ok type, seating is neither very close nor very spacious.just good enough.. nothing very fancy..but nice. Menu is quite good, with lots of variety.soups are very good, green pea and tomato both, infact the best. Then starters, some kalari potatoes, sesame kabab, pakoras and chilli paneer etc..chilli paneer he brought only when i saw it in menu and asked him...but anyway it wasnt good, pakora and sesame kabab were good but for second serving we waited, till we almost came to the end of our lunch. for papdi chaat, they were putting everything on sem( maida sticks fried)..a variation and a good one. In the main food they had sambhar rasam, paneer khurchan daal and one more vegetable.here I found it lacking not a singe preparation was good, daal was good but it had too much of salt., naan kulcha were well made. they had paani puri dahi vada, and variety of rice and salads etc.I like their way of serving dahi bhall.small small kat...

CAFE G.HOLIDAY INN

We had sunday dinner there, as soon as you enter you like the ambiance of reception lobby quite opulent and nice,in restaurant also ambiance is good with spacious seating. Variety is enough in everything except moctail..there is no mocktail included in  buffet price..a big disappointment to me.. Salads have enough variety and on the live counter, there was pao bhaji, kathi roll and galouti kabab(non veg) and one veg,one non veg soup. in starters there was  paneer tikka and some mushroom preparation..Paneer was dry and hard, and i dont like mushrooms. In the main section, there was bhindi in curd, potao curry, dhaba daal and paneer curry..all with no flavour and salt..some baked item, pineapple fried rice..it was with chinese flavour, plain rice, plain yogurt, dahi bhalla and curd rice..here all three were good. Dessertshad lots of variety and many were good..I liked rajbhog, gulabjamun, malai ladoo and icecream. In nutshell, variety was there, but preparations were not good. ...

SIGREE GLOBAL GRILL

We had lunch there today with lot of expectations. First thing is that building is under construction, so outside there is all concrete and they havent bothered with beautifying even entrance..so very basic view..inside seating is spcacious. Moctail and soup and then starters...grill on the table..there was pineapple chunks, paneer, potato and mushrooms, and  babycorn fried..all very mediocre. In the main course there was ma ki daal, tuar daal, kali mirrch paneer, aloo simla mirch, curd rice, biryani, steamed rice, rasam ,baked dish etc, ..not much good vriety and then Naan roti also then dont bring fresh, its kept on the table..Ma ki daal was good, rest just ok,. In desserts, there were no good indian dessert..there were maal pua and rice kheer and both not worth it and then there were many cakes and mousse and icecream, but icecream was totally melted. Its easy on the pocket..705/ per person, but I didnt find it worth it..In the same range, Barbeque nation is much better in f...

Annalakshmi

Finally we got a chance to try this restaurant on this Sunday.. As soon as we entered, we thought..wow what a place, ambiance is very good. Since we had booked the table in advance, we got the table immediately. and waited for food impatiently. The ambiance increased our expectation, but we were in for a big disappointment, mainly because we went for north Indian food, here its mainly south Indian cuisine with some north Indian dishes added, but that too not prepared in north indian way. Started with soup and it was good, but in starters there was only one item..daal vada.. and then thali came..with paneer, rajma, potato, beans and sweet raita, with naan and chapati. naan and chapati were ok but not a single curry was tasty. There was lot of variety in rice, but without good curry we didnt enjoy anything. and waiting in between dishes just spoils your mood and apetite both.In dessert it was sort of payasam but flowing type, and gulabjamun and icecream. last two were good but he never as...

HOLA

I am a lover of mexican food, so keep looking for the places where it is served. This place has good ambiance and seating and friendly service, and was not over crowded even, We ordered watermelon mojito ..it was just ok..with a little too big pieces at the bottom. Then nachos..they serve in a cart type dish with all the dips in tumblers places around..Though I prefer my nachos topped with everything, but i did it myself and liked it. Crispy tacos..they were looking so good and the taste was also the same crispy and full of fillings..awesome. Veg Fajita..here four mini corn tortillas are served with sizzler vegetables and all the mexican dips, it was yummy..awesome,,just loved it The prices are little high, all this came to around 1560/- But food is good.. HOLA Citadines, 290, Rajiv Gandhi Salai,  Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR),  IT Expressway,  Sholinganallur ,  Chennai PH:044.33011753

Royal Indiana

This is a pure veg restaurant, and ambiance is very good.with enough space between seating arrangement.Crowd was also better, in the sense not making too much noise or talking very loudly..though this part cant be controlled by the restaurants, I dont like the places which look like fish market. Service is one part I wasnt very happy with..first as soon as we entered there was no one to tell you about the place or anything. then once you sit down, there is no immediate service, though it was not very crowded even. But food was very good.in variety and taste both. There were lot of starters, I loved medu vada, the most among idli, pakoda, paneer etc etc.. Welcome drink and soup were also ok.In the main course Daal makhni was very good and so was palak paneer, there were lot of variety in rice and side dishes, north indian and south indian both with salads and all. In desserts i like Indian sweets, there were two types of barfi, mysore pak, rasogulla and gulabjamun with rabri etc.with m...

BOMBAYSTHAN

They have a sitting place downstairs  in the open and upstairs airconditioned.I prefer airconditioned, so we opted for upstairs..Ambiance is very minimal..infact nothing at all. They have burgers, sandwiches, pizza, rolls and shakes and icecreams. We ordered kiwi cream, veg grilled sandwiches and, falooda with kulfi and rolls. Kiwi cream was totally awesome, have never tasted such delicious one with so much of fruit.Rolls were also perfect, Falooda was also good, as far as Chennai is concerned. And sandwiches were just yummy. And one thing I liked that they serve in good quantity with good quality and rates are very reasonable. They dont compromise with quality anywhere. Just one little suggestion that if they put more butter on the outer surface of bread, sandwich will be very crispy and less dry. I would certainly go there again BOMBAYSTHAN 7th Avenue,  Besant Nagar , Chennai 044 42666022 +91 9597087664

Roast And Grill..Green Park vada palani

I bought the groupon coupon for this and found that this was my best deal. The restaurant is on the roof top with a pool..and ambiance is very good....infact I loved sitting poolside..looking over the lighted Forum Mall...much better than sitting inside. Then the service was excellent, they were polite and very attentive to our needs, before we finished even one started, another came on the table. In the mocktails we ordered kiwi cooler and it was perfect. Then in the starters they had corn cob, paneer tikka, onion capsicam with herbs , potato with cream, soya patties etc, all grilled or roasted. He asked us whether we wanted any repeat of the starters, but it wasnt possible for us, we were full..so much that we picked a little from the main food. There we had 4.5 vegetables and daal, veg, pulao, curd rice, and naan..baiagan ka  salan, shahi paneer and daal were just yummy..Only thing I miss in chennai is that rarely they have dahi bhalla in menu..but here they compensated with sta...

PUNJAB GRILL

I went to Phoenix mall to eat at habanero and it was very disappointing to see it closed for renovation, then we thought of going to CPK and it was also closed, very disappointing, and then we saw this Punjab grill and thought of trying it. Its ambiance is ok and so is the seating, since we were early we found the table easily. Menu has more of non veg. section, since we are are pure veg. we ordered Hara bhara kabab in starters, it was quite good and they were quite big ones and 5 in a plate. In the main section we ordered Paneer makhani, khasta roti and amritsari kulchas.Kulchas were very good, havent seen many restaurants here who make it, but khasta roti was a misnomer..it wasnt khasta at all, instead it was crisp like makki..Paneer was ok, their quantity is quite a lot, I would prefer small portions, and less gravy or more paneer. In the end they serve a small drink something like paan liquor, which is ok Most of the dishes are in 395/ range and breads for 99...109 etc.. Nothing ex...

Novelty tea house..sowcarpet

We reached there anyhow ,asking evrybody and when we saw the exterior, my hubby was sorely dissappointed and told me..you came here all the way for this..I was sheepish, couldnt say anything..frankly i too never expected this..ambiance..what is that..its very conjusted, no place to move or sit properly, seats are torn, walls are chipped.Good for take away only..on top of that they dont served dinner on sundays..its only snacks. We started with lassi..sweet one and it was good, but nothing special, next masala papad..it was totally yummy, very good. Since everybody was praising their pao bhaaji, we ordered pao bhaji, and it was really good, they serve more bhaaji than needed , so that they can ask you..do you want more pao..ofcourse at extra cost.. Next we thought of Aloo tikki and corn sandwich...first one they serve with dollops of curd, whereas we are habitual of eating completely covered with curd, and when we asked him for more, the waiter said we dont put extra..hellooo..even hawk...

My Fortune....cathedral road

We tried the Saturday night buffet over there..Since its five star we expected good ambiance and we were not disappointed..one thing I liked was the spacious seating. In the moctails they had just one variety but it was  totally to go for..very yummy. Then in the vegetarian starters he brought vada, pakora and fried vegetable and all of them were good. In the main section they had very good bread section, then we tried paneer khurchan, ma ki daal, dahi vada , green mix veg and there to southern style vegetables too.....they had lot more variety ib non veg. Though the variety was not much but the food was good...... In the dessert there were many baked varieties 4 types of icecream, karachi halwa and bread pudding...whatever was there was very good and tasty but i missed indian desserts something like gulab jamun or jalebi. Service was prompt and courteous..I liked it. It cost us 899/ per person because we had taken groupon coupon , otherwise I think i...

Little Italy

We went to this place in Beasant nagar. Got the table immediately. Ambiance is very nice and cosy and gives a very clean feeling with starched table cloths and all. Service is also quick, we ordered Long Island in Mocktails and veg, cream soup and both were totally to go for..very nice Then we took special tacos and pizza..both were very good, yummy,My husband was so happy to find this place. Since both the dishes had paneer, we were totally stuffed and didnt have any place for dessert, but they had nice variety including Tiramisu. Now i would like to point out 2-3 small things, like in service he always brought the dish first then plates then cutlery whereas it should be the other way round. Both the dishes were very tasty but for tacos, I cant say that they were authentic Mexican..for that we need guacamole and sour cream, but I know that with the prices of Avocado so high in India, its difficult to manage that in  a reasonable price. All in all a very good experience..its...

DELHI HIGHWAY

I was looking for a north Indian vegetarian restaurant, so this week we tried this one.  Compared to other restaurants in this category I found the ambiance quite good..with decor seating and space.Luckily we got the table immediately, otherwise there was waiting later on. I was happy to see mocktails on the menu and so we ordered lassi and Pommegranate moctail, lassi was nothing special but moctail was good and so were the starters..dahi ke kabab..they we yummy. In the main course we tried delhi highway special daal and kadhai paneer..Daal was awesome..best I have tasted in Chennai, kadhai Paneer was also fine, in the breads, missi roti wasnt worth it but naan and kulcha were good. There was enough variety in desserts also, but we were full, so didnt try anything. All this came at a price of 1700/..so if we had ordered desserts also, .complete meal for two wouldnt be less than 2000/..may be a little more They have a thali on weekdays for 499/.nett..why cant ...

Raintree Annasalai

I have tried raintree in Alwarpet but never this one, so I gave it a try yesterday. We tried Their multi cuisine restaurant..Kitchen. It is quite spacious, but seating and all is quite ordinary, secondly I dont like the glass walls on the inner side..it gives you the feeling that you are eating on the road. On Sundays they have five live counters for pizza ,pasta dosa etc. There were two mocktails..and fruit mix was quite good. In the starters they had fried vegetables chineses style, tawa fry, kabab, papdi chaat etc...I liked only kabab.,, vegetable soup was quite spicy. In the main course there was quite a lot of variety in vegetables, salad, breads and they had dahi vada also...I liked ma ki daal, daal tadka, pulao with sulatana and zuchhini...First time i saw somewhere kesar paneer, but it was just ok. Naan were good. In the dessert section, they had good Indian sweets..I loved them and then some baked delights, icecreams and fruits. Top it all with coffee or tea.. ...

DELHI DHABA

This Sunday we were looking for a good north Indian joint on ECR as we like to drive thru that road, but now that road has become a total concrete.such fast development though its a sore to the eyes.I was searching the net, asked few friends and then zeroed on Delhi Dhaba..Its opposite to VGP Beach and there are three restaurants together..one Malgudi, one Delhi dhaba and one for fast food. We went to Delhi dhaba..it has a retro bollywood ambiance with old heroes pictures everywhere. Bamboo legs of tables are fine but otherwise it looks very old. Outside it was looking good with village look but then the weather was hot and I wanted to sit inside in airconditioning. The one who took the order looked like an old fat clerks you see in offices..nothing pleasant about him.On the table there was a card telling us that they have two chef special..paneer kabab and vegetable kababs platter..we ordered tomato soup and veg.kabab platter, as we tgought we will order pane er in main di...

La Shakahari

This restaurant is there in residential area of Nungambakkam..Pyrocroft garden road..It had special appeal for me as its a pure vegetarian restaurant and with global cuisine. When we entered we were surprised to see that it wasnt very crowded, normally on sundays all of them are.But we were happy because I dont like crowded noisy places. That way here seating and ambiance is fine..one can eat in piece. Now i looked at the menu..they have Mexican, Mediterranean, oriental and Indian, but for that they have made journeys..like whole Mediterranean or Mexican  package for one person is 475/ per person and one cant share it..Like I cant eat that much on my own, so either they should limit the quantity  and then let the guest share..that way we can try many things..Because of their mismanaged menu I couldnt try anything like that, we went for a la carte... We asked for tomato soup and then we came to know that they are having a scheme where some dishes are being given complimen...

BASERA

Basera is located on ECR with a very good ambiance. For buffet one can sit inside, otherwise outside there are tables under trees. If in a group of 20, tree top arrangements are there. We went for lunch and found the surrounding very very good, with water falling at one place... Now about food, since i am a vegetarian, I can tell you about vegetarian only..There are three types of soup to order in the range of 90/..E In starters there is Paneer Tikka, Hare bhare kabab, in Chinese section..spring roll and all. We tried hare bhare kabab, they were good and healthy too as they were baked not fried.Every dish is around 190/.. In the main dishes there were lot of varieties we tried Malai kofta and Kadhai paneer, both were very well prepared and portions were also good. All special side dishes are in the range of 220..230,daals are around 160..190. And naans..they were the best, In Chennai I havent seen better than them, we tried pudina paratha, butter naan and stuffed kulcha and ever...

SPICE JAR

This is a restaurant in Residency hotel at G.N.Chetty street. We had sunday lunch over there. Ambiance: It is OK, not very opulent, but nice. As soon as you enter the hotel, the restaurant is just in front of you. Seating is fine, we got the table immediately, though it was crowded. Food: For the starters they have two vegetarian  variety, it was potato pakoras and small uttapam with onion. and two mocktails and vegetable soup. Starters were good and service was very prompt. Salad...There were usual 4-5 types of it,even dahi vada was also kept with starters, I liked pineapple with spices. Then in the main dishes, there was so much variety of vegetables..yam, radish with peas, green koftas, paneer,2-3 southern varieties, zeera potato, brinjal salan, tadka daal,Date pulao, plain rice, curd rice, gobhi rolls and naan, roti I liked date pulao very much same for paneer, was very tasty, gtobhi rolls, radish with peas were also good. Desserts: First time I liked trifle pudding, there ...

CHOKHI DHANI

This is a small rajashthani village ..with all the little little things specific to that culture...like Baithaks..Chaupal, jute cots everywhere to relax, folk music and dances going on different place, Bhool bhulaiya, then one Chhatri for astrologer, and some games stalls and a shop selling rajasthani items, tehn there was a photographer too  with rajasthani costumes. A cave, two temples, one fountain..lots of things and space to enjoy. There was one boy who was walking on the rope for visitors entertainment. This was one thing I didnt like for many reasons..one its child labour, we are spoiling his childhood, he must study and make his future. And he was putting his life in danger . There were camel rides , camel cart ride, bullock cart ride..... For food they have traditional sitting system where they serve rajasthani food with love..everything was good but there was this boy who was insisting people to eat sweet.saying it is hospitality, but too much ...

Radisson Blu Resort Temple Bay Mamallapuram

My husband went their on some official appointment and since then he wanted to show me as liked it very much. Basically it is a beach resort with cottages and restaurants. We had the buffet lunch over there. Ambiance is good but service is neither polite nor good.In most of the good restaurants service is very important.and though its buffet, there are many things they serve on your table, but here when I asked, she said..its buffet..oh yes, I know its buffet and i am not eating buffet for the first time, I felt quite offended with her reply. They dont have any mocktails, there is lemon soup only, since i dont like it, I didnt try even. In starters they had good variety.with pakoras, chilli paneer and all that..vadas were good, but Indian snacks are better tasted if hot...few varieties of bread.. In the main fare..salads,pulao, few curries, and noodles..for a north Indian, there was no paneer dish, and no good vegetable. Desserts were good, few Indian and few western with icecr...
